National Service Scheme (NSS) students, focused on combating drug abuse by providing guidance, support, and pathways to recovery for those affected.
On November 8, 2024, Mrs. N. Gladys Lilly Rathnavathy, representing the Tamil Nadu State Unit of the Human Rights & Social Justice Mission, organized a human rights awareness and counseling session at Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government Arts College in Tiruvannamalai. This event, targeting National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) students, focused on combating drug abuse by providing guidance, support, and pathways to recovery for those affected.
Kalaignar Karunanidhi Government Arts College, established in 1966, has a history of active student participation in NCC and NSS programs. The college initiated its NCC unit in the 1971-72 academic year with an intake of 132 cadets. These programs have been instrumental in fostering discipline, leadership, and community service among students.
The collaboration between the Human Rights & Social Justice Mission and the college’s NCC and NSS units underscores a shared commitment to addressing societal issues like drug abuse. Such initiatives are crucial in educating youth about the dangers of substance abuse and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
